Happy new year everyone!

Hope you had a blast and your head is not too sore.

Here’s hoping your year is happy, healthy and with some tempting telly treats.

You’ll have a lot more content options this year when new streaming start-ups such as Netflix, Stan and Presto Entertainment get underway. We love to binge our best Dramas (Transparent and, hopefully, Bloodline and Better Call Saul will be the pick of the new streaming ones) and the viewer is becoming more empowered as to how they consume so much choice. How far we have come from 5 channels on analogue….

2015 year will be defined by Gallipoli commemorations with both Nine and Foxtel to roll out lavish dramas, premium local dramas on ABC (The Secret River, Glitch), SBS (The Principal) and Foxtel (Banished, A Place to Call Home), Seven has a sprawling doco (Australia: The Story of Us) and TEN will tickle our funnybone with Gogglebox (also on Foxtel).

Shaun Micallef will also keep us laughing with The Ex PM, Paul McDermott gets chatty on Room 101, and Charlie Pickering launches a new ABC show.

There’s plenty of returning Reality, joined by new formats Shark Tank, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!, Restaurant Revolution, The Bachelorette, Married at First Sight and a rumoured new food format by Nine. Sport will be big and bad in the push for more Live viewers.

2015 will also see Neighbours mark a remarkable 30 years on Australian television and the end of Redfern Now.

Returning after time out are Go Back To Where You Came From, Gruen, Australia’s Next Top Model and a rumoured Renovation Rumble.

But it will be time to farewell such shows as Mad Men, The Mentalist, Nurse Jackie, Parenthood, Two and a Half Men, Justified, Falling Skies, White Collar and The Late Show with David Letterman.

You’ll also have more HbbTV services, combining television and broadband, provided you have compatible sets. Foxtel viewers are also getting the IQ3 and a new Arts channel.

Next week TV Tonight turns 8 and voting for the 2014 awards has now closed.

January is also Awards time with with AACTA Awards and Golden Globes on TEN and FOX8 respectively.

Hiatus mode continues this month and your patience is appreciated.

thanks, David
